About When We Were Trekkies
Inspired by the Star Trek and science fiction conventions he attended in 1970s New York City during his teen years, Joe Sikoryak’s graphic memoir series When We Were Trekkies serves as a love letter to the early days of pop culture fandom. Prior to today’s big corporate-sponsored marketplaces, sci-fi and comics fans were often left to their own devices when it came to putting on gatherings—from getting the word out to wrangling special guests. When We Were Trekkies pays homage to that coming of age era and celebrates the passionate DIY spirit of fans everywhere.
