Arcosanti Presents Mesquite Harvest and Desert Tasting Party AUG. 10

On Saturday, Aug 10, Arcosanti presents an incredible daylong experience during which guests can learn about how to sustainability harvest as well as prepare mesquite for a unique desert feast!

Those who are curious about the edible desert landscape are in for a treat during this experience, led by ecologist Linn Williams, Arcosanti’s land and stewardship manager. Williams will shed light on the life and abundance of the region’s ecosystem and encourage attendees to experiment with various ways to steward a land using the mind, body and senses.

The day begins with a brief orientation, then a harvest of local mesquite before processing it and pairing it with other local desert foods. Guests will then enjoy the fruits of their labors with a delicious and inspiring lunch made from the harvest’s bounty.

Attendees can take home the mesquite pods they harvest and can process them at home or send them to a community mill to be processed into mesquite flour. They will also receive the recipes used to make the meals tasted and shared during the event.

Guests are welcome to stay onsite until 8 p.m. and are invited to enjoy the community’s pool after the mesquite activities. Overnight stays, in either Arcosanti’s guest rooms or via the camping options, must be booked prior to class via arcosanti.org/stay/guest-rooms/.

Schedule is as follows:

9 a.m.: Arrival

9:15 a.m.: Orientation

9:45 a.m.: Mesquite harvesting

11 a.m.: Processing and cooking

2 p.m.: Lunch

3 p.m.: Event concludes

Attendees should bring their own refillable water bottle, sun protection and a basket, bucket or bag for collecting mesquite pods.
