Join us this Memorial Day at 6:30am as we honor the fallen heroes of our Military with a 3 mile ruck march. (You can also go more or less as you desire!)
Why ruck? Not only is ruck marching a common army exercise, it is also a great symbolic gesture. We ruck for this event because the weight of the ruck symbolizes the weight of the sacrifice these men and women made for us. So, weigh your ruck according to your physical strength with that symbolism in mind.
You can walk, run, bike, etc. We will be taking 3 laps (about 1 mile each) around the loop at Desert Breeze Park.
This tradition began when my cousin, Colby, was deployed in 2019 with the goal to continue in his tradition but also to bring back the importance of what Memorial Day is truly about. Memorial day is not about cookouts and pool parties. It is about honoring those who gave their lives! If there is a fallen soldier you would like to honor at this year's event, please send me a message.
The main event is hosted in North Georgia at the Chickamauga Battlefield. Over the years we have grown bigger and bigger. Last year we had around 60 people join us! This year, we decided we wanted to be able to participate even though we no longer live nearby. So, we are hosting the satellite site here in Chandler.
Bring a water bottle and your patriotic wear or purchase our T-shirt (see post below for additional details to order)! Proceeds go to Friends of the Troops, a non profit that supports veterans and active duty service members. Learn more about the organization here: https://www.friendsofthetroops.org/
