Mc Gehee Owlfest
Owlfest Committee was formed and begin working to build this great event in 2005. This was the 100th birthday for our town, McGehee, AR. The committee is made up of local residents and business owners who volunteer their time year round to make this festival a success. Owlfest has grown each year with new and exciting activities, vendors and entertainment. Our festival host up to 1,000 people in our downtown area. Some of the annual attractions are the Two Person 18 hole Golf Scramble sponsored by the MHS Touchdown Club. This event is held at the Delta Country Club at 2101 Crooked Bayou Dr. The University of Arkansas at McGehee sponsors the annual 5K Run/Walk which begins at our downtown Gazebo and runs through the streets of our town. ABATE District 18 holds an annual Bike Show and Point Run. The Point Run takes riders through some of the beautiful sites in Southeast Arkansas. This event also donates the money raised to our local Paws -n- Claws organization. Owlfest has many activities for kids which include a Pumpkin Decorating Contest, Magic Show, Sidewalk Chalk Contest, Blow Up Games and activities in the park. The annual OwlHoot Contest for the kids is always so much fun to see. Some of the other attractions are our Star Search Talent Show open to kids of all ages and always very entertaining. Owlfest has an Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest sponsored by Sonic, a Horseshoe Tournament sponsored by Barney's Tires and a Dog Show. The MHS Dance Team sponsores the Owlette's Cake Walk in the Gazebo. McGehee Bank sponsors the Razorback Tailgate Party in their tent serving BBQ and sides and the Money Machine were kids try to grab the big bucks! First National Bank sponsors the Saturday night entertainment on their stage. The Band plays for our Street Dance.
Owlfest weekend host several MHS Class Reunions. We coordinate our festival with the local Homecoming which brings so many alumni back to our town. There is a Homecoming Parade on Thursday followed by a Town Pep Rally and Bonfire. The Homecoming Game on Friday night is followed by our DJ and Street Dance downtown at the First National Bank Stage.
Each year the Owlfest Committee strives to improve our local festival and give our current and former residents a fun filled weekend to share with family and friends.
