4.Tatsuda’s IGA, Ketchikan, AK

Tatsuda’s IGA, Ketchikan’s hometown supermarket, offers a five percent discount to seniors who show their Alaska Senior Tax Exempt Card all day Thursdays (Senior Day), as well as on Saturdays and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Some specially-priced items may be excluded from the discount.

5.Alaska Zoo, Anchorage, AK

Whether you go with grown-ups or grandkids, to see animals or the dazzling annual holiday lights display, you’ll enjoy your visit to the Alaska Zoo. All of the animals in the zoo are from the Arctic, sub-Arctic, or similar climates. Many are native to Alaska. Seniors 65 and over enjoy discounted admissions or grandparent memberships when they visit.

6.National Park Service

Alaska is home to 20 different National Park Service units, including Denali National Park, which is home to the highest mountain in North America. Other federal units include the Tongass National Forest, which is the world’s largest temperate rain forest. Seniors can buy a lifetime America the Beautiful Pass—which allows admission to national parks and recreation areas, as well as other federal units—for the same price as a regular annual pass. Which is a good thing in Alaska, because it could take years to explore all of the units in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

7.The American Bald Eagle Foundation, Haines, AK

The American Bald Eagle Foundation is a natural history museum and raptor center that’s dedicated to educating folks about the raptors native to the region. It’s located in an area where the world’s largest congregation of bald eagles occurs every fall, during the Alaska Bald Eagle Festival. Seniors enjoy a discounted admission to the center.

8.University of Alaska, Fairbanks, AK

Alaska residents who are 66 years or older and receiving full Social Security Benefits can attend any school in the University of Alaska system without paying tuition. Seniors must meet other admission criteria and may have to pay other associated fees and enrollment expenses.

9.Alaska Ferry System, Juneau, AK

Southeast Alaska is largely a series of islands pressed against a long sliver of mainland. Ferries are the most efficient way to travel from island to island in this part of the state. Passengers 65 and older, who are traveling between points on the Alaska Marine Highway or Inside Passage, can enjoy discounted fares on the Alaska Ferry System.

10.Alaska State Fair, Palmer, AK

For more than 80 years, folks on the Last Frontier have celebrated their bounty with the annual Alaska State (and pre-statehood) Fair. Food, music, exhibits, and celebrations of Alaska and Native history highlight the 10-day celebration. Seniors receive discounts off daily admission and ticket packages.
